Thirty years ago today John Lennon was brutally murdered. A man, whose name I refuse to even write, put four bullets in a poet, a husband, a father, and a dreamer.
Yoko Ono asks,"Why would you want to kill John? He was an artist!"
I could rant and rave about the tragic level of violence in this country and in the world. I could go off about the ignorance of hand guns
weapons whose ONLY purpose, it seems, is to kill people. I could blog about gun control, freedom of speech, and the insane way we kill our dreamers.
But what I want to say today is what I have written about so many times in these journals. What I want to repeat today is not even remotely original. A simple message of peace and love.
I will once again direct you all to listen to the words, the intent, and the DREAM of this simple, beautiful, meaningful piece of music. I'm going to make this day of remembrance meaningful by keeping John Lennon's dream alive. May our collective imaginations bear real fruit.
[link]Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
Tonight, I'll light a candle and raise a Heineken to John Lennon. I miss him.
Some people use their guns to shoot beer cans, some for deer, some for sport, and unfortunately, some for murder. If a gun sat around somewhere in a different universe where man never existed, the gun would have no purpose because we aren't around to give it one. if that makes sense..
On topic, it's a damn shame that he was killed. If I had the ability to raise anyone from the dead, it would definitely be Lennon.
