it is unbelievably good. Hints: ONLY go to a Japanese owned, operated, and trained sushi bar. Sit at the bar and ask for "Omakase" or "Chef's Choice", and just let them feed you. Tell them ahead of time about anything you don't like or are allergic to, then they will make you crazy with good food. And have some Sake or Asahi beer with it. YUM!!

Is Japanese beer actually good? I've heard that it, and Asian beers in general, are kind of bland if you're in to like Belgian tripels and American IPAs and other heavy flavored stuff.

Well - I've done lots of blind beer taste tests and for me, Asahi, always wins. BUT - I'm not a fan of the heavy flavored hoppy or dark beers, so it truly is a matter of taste. But Sake and beer both combine well with sushi. For me, there is a difference in stand alone beer for drinking and beer that goes with a meal. I've traveled throughout the world a bit and in my opinion, the Japanese do 3 things the best.... beer, steak, and sushi.
Matsusaka beef can ONLY be found in Japan and in very few places there. Some in Tokyo but rarely - and in, of course, Matsusaka.
The beer is made locally and most of it gets swallowed up by the locals, so regional Asahi is different in different areas of Japan.
Of course, sushi, is just other worldly.

I'll keep an eye out for Asahi then. I'm partially to hoppy stuff, but I enjoy beers in general and like trying different stuff, even if it sometimes isn't very good. Sadly, Finland is horseshit when it comes to alcohol; regular stores can't sell anything over 4.7%abv, and the state monopoly that could actually sell the good stuff, focuses on wines and distilled stuff, so the beer selection ranges from sad to laughable, and if you find something interesting, you pay around 4€ (more or less the same as $) for it.

Is that cuttlefish? I love sushi and sashimi? Looks tasty. The best I have ever had so far was from a street vendor in Tokyo down by the HUGE fish market.

I didn't even think of that... When I first saw the photo I thought it was a photo of a "whited-out" fossil of a similar one I have. I can't figure out what kind of fossil it is either, though I have suspicions.

Anyway, now I want sushi.
